Prepared Chapter
Terms of Service
Last updated: August 16, 2026
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) form a binding agreement between you and Prepared Chapter (“Prepared Chapter,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) regarding your access to and use of preparedchapter.com and related applications, quizzes, reports, memberships, and tools (collectively, the “Services”).
By accessing or using the Services, creating an account, taking the quiz, or purchasing any product, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.
Important:
- Prepared Chapter is not a law firm or professional advisor.
- Quiz scores and personalized outputs are educational tools, not legal, medical, mental-health, tax, or financial advice.
- The quiz is free. The personalized report & prep plan is a one-time purchase you keep. A membership trial exists only if checkout shows one.
- Paid membership automatically renews until canceled, as clearly disclosed and affirmatively accepted at checkout.
- These Terms contain warranty disclaimers and limits on liability.
1. Educational services only — not a law firm
Prepared Chapter is not a law firm and does not practice law. The Services provide general education and preparation tools. They are not a substitute for the advice of an attorney. Use of the Services does not create an attorney-client relationship. See our full Legal Disclaimer.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of legal majority where you live if that age is higher, and able to form a binding contract to use the Services. The Services are intended for adults seeking educational preparation related to divorce and similar life transitions. You represent that information you provide is accurate, current, and complete; that you are using the Services for yourself or with proper authorization; and that you will not use the Services for unlawful purposes.
3. Accounts and security
You may need an account to access certain features. You are responsible for safeguarding your login credentials and for all activity under your account. Notify us promptly at support@preparedchapter.com if you suspect unauthorized access.
4. Electronic communications
By creating an account or purchasing a Service, you consent to receive transaction and account communications electronically, including receipts, trial and renewal disclosures, cancellation confirmations, security notices, and policy updates. Electronic records and notices satisfy any legal requirement that communications be in writing, to the extent permitted by applicable law. Marketing communications are separate and may be unsubscribed from; essential account and transaction messages cannot be opted out of while your account remains active.
5. Description of products
5.1 Free Readiness Quiz
The Divorce Readiness Score quiz is a free educational assessment that may generate a score and high-level gap labels based on your answers.
5.2 Personalized Report & Prep Plan (one-time purchase)
For a one-time fee, you may purchase a personalized educational report and prep-plan bundle generated from your quiz answers. An example currently advertised is $27 USD. Prices and plan names on these pages are examples only; the checkout screen you accepted governs that transaction. You keep the report. It is not a trial of the whole product or of membership. Digital deliverables are provided as described at checkout.
5.3 Membership and any trial shown at checkout
A membership trial exists only if the checkout price screen explicitly states a trial, including the trial length, the date of the first membership charge, and the renewal price. If checkout does not show a trial, there is no trial.
If a trial is shown, membership access during that trial has no extra membership charge. Unless you cancel before the trial end date and time shown at checkout and in your confirmation, your payment method will be charged the membership price shown at checkout (an example currently advertised is $37.99 USD per month) and will renew until canceled.
Payment authorization. Completing checkout—including with Apple Pay, Google Pay, a saved card, one-tap checkout, or a similar method—is your electronic signature. You authorize us and our payment processor to charge (1) the amount due today, and (2) automatic renewals at the then-current price shown at checkout until you cancel. If checkout shows an introductory or discounted price, renewals are charged at the full renewal price shown at checkout, not the introductory price.
Extra plans or upsells are separate purchases. Canceling one does not cancel the others.
Deleting your account, closing the browser, ignoring email, or unused access does not cancel a subscription. You must cancel as described in Billing & Refunds.
Full billing rules are in Billing & Refunds. When a money-back option was shown at checkout, see the Money-Back Policy. Short answers are in the Billing FAQ.
5.4 Lawyer search / consult prep tools
Any lawyer directory, scorecard, or prep packet is informational only and is not a referral service or endorsement. We do not guarantee attorney availability, pricing, or outcomes.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the Services to obtain or provide unauthorized practice of law;
- misrepresent that Prepared Chapter is your attorney or that our materials are court-approved;
- use the Services to conceal assets, submit false statements, harass, stalk, or endanger any person;
- scrape, reverse engineer, or resell our content without permission;
- upload malware or attempt to disrupt the Services;
- use the Services if doing so would violate applicable law in your jurisdiction.
7. Intellectual property
The Services, including text, design, logos, quizzes, curricula, templates, and software, are owned by Prepared Chapter or its licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws. We grant you a limited, personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive license to use purchased digital materials for your own personal, non-commercial preparation. You may not republish, resell, or commercially exploit our materials without prior written consent.
8. User content
You retain ownership of content you submit (such as quiz answers). You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive license to process that content to operate, personalize, improve, and deliver the Services, consistent with our Privacy Policy. Do not submit content you do not have the right to share.
Do not submit another person's confidential, financial, medical, or identifying information unless you have a lawful right to do so. Information submitted to Prepared Chapter is not protected by attorney-client, work-product, doctor-patient, or therapist-client privilege.
9. Third-party services
The Services may link to or integrate third-party tools (for example, payment processors, analytics, email providers, or attorney listings). We are not responsible for third-party sites, services, or advice. Your use of third-party services is subject to their terms.
10. Service changes and availability
We may improve, modify, suspend, or discontinue features or content. We will provide notice where required by law if a material change substantially reduces a paid Service. Descriptions of future or planned features are not guarantees that those features will launch or remain available. Your remedy for a material change is to stop using or cancel the affected Service, subject to any non-waivable rights.
11. Disclaimers
THE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICES WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT RESULTS WILL MEET YOUR EXPECTATIONS OR PRODUCE ANY LEGAL OUTCOME.
12. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, PREPARED CHAPTER AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICES.
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF THE SERVICES WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID TO PREPARED CHAPTER FOR THE SERVICES GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM IN THE THREE (3) MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, OR (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (US $100).
13. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Prepared Chapter and its affiliates from claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from your misuse of the Services, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right.
14. Suspension, cancellation, and termination
We may suspend or terminate access to the Services if you violate these Terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the Services. Where reasonably practicable and no immediate safety, security, fraud, or legal risk exists, we may provide notice and an opportunity to correct a violation. You may stop using the Services at any time, cancel a subscription as described in Billing & Refunds, and request account deletion under the Privacy Policy. Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription or stop renewals. Termination does not erase payment obligations already incurred. Provisions that by their nature should survive (including disclaimers, limitations, indemnification, payment obligations, and IP ownership) will survive.
15. Governing law
To the extent permitted by law, these Terms are governed by the laws of the U.S. state in which Prepared Chapter's operating entity is organized, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any court proceeding must be brought in a court with jurisdiction over that entity, unless mandatory consumer law permits or requires a different governing law or venue. Nothing in these Terms deprives you of non-waivable protections in your place of residence.
16. General provisions
These Terms, together with the policies and checkout terms incorporated by reference, are the entire agreement concerning the Services. If a provision is unenforceable, it will be limited to the minimum extent necessary and the remaining provisions will continue. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign your rights without our written consent; we may assign these Terms in connection with a merger, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets. We are not responsible for delay or failure caused by events beyond our reasonable control.
17. Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date will change when we do. Material changes may be communicated by email or in-product notice before they become effective where required. Changes to pricing or recurring billing apply prospectively and are governed by Billing & Refunds. Continued use after changes become effective constitutes acceptance, but changes do not retroactively alter disputes or charges already incurred.
18. Contact
