Prepared Chapter
Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 16, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Prepared Chapter (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects personal information when you use preparedchapter.com and related Services. By using the Services, you acknowledge this Policy. For our product rules, see the Terms of Service.
1. Who we are
Prepared Chapter provides educational divorce-preparation tools, including a readiness quiz, personalized reports, and membership content. We are not a law firm. Contact: privacy@preparedchapter.com.
2. Information we collect
2.1 Information you provide
- Account & contact data: name, email address, password, and similar identifiers.
- Quiz & assessment data: answers about your situation (for example, stage of consideration, children, money access, conflict indicators, goals). This can be sensitive personal information.
- Purchase data: billing details processed by our payment provider (we do not store full card numbers on our servers).
- Communications: support messages, survey responses, and feedback.
2.2 Information collected automatically
- Device and usage data (IP address, browser type, pages viewed, referring URLs, approximate location derived from IP).
- Cookies and similar technologies (see our Cookie Policy).
2.3 Information from third parties
We may receive limited information from payment processors, analytics providers, email delivery tools, or advertising partners (if enabled), consistent with your settings and applicable law.
2.4 Sensitive information and information about other people
Quiz answers may reveal sensitive family circumstances, relationship status, safety concerns, financial access, or information that certain privacy laws treat as sensitive personal information or consumer health data. Please share only what is necessary. Do not provide another person's Social Security number, financial-account credentials, medical records, or other confidential information, and do not submit information about another person unless you have the right to do so.
3. How we use information
We use personal information to:
- provide and personalize the quiz, score, report, and membership;
- process payments, trials, renewals, refunds, and cancellations;
- send transactional emails (receipts, trial reminders, account notices);
- send marketing emails only where permitted (you may unsubscribe at any time);
- improve product safety, quality, and user experience;
- detect fraud, abuse, and security incidents;
- comply with law and enforce our Terms;
- develop aggregated, de-identified insights that do not reasonably identify you.
4. AI-assisted processing and automated outputs
We may use templates, automated systems, and third-party artificial intelligence providers to analyze quiz answers and generate educational scores, reports, summaries, or recommended learning paths. When used, those providers process information on our behalf under contractual restrictions or other terms described to you.
Automated outputs may be inaccurate and are not legal, medical, mental-health, tax, or financial advice. We do not use the Readiness Score to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you, such as employment, credit, housing, insurance, or eligibility for government benefits. You may contact us to ask questions about an automated output or request correction of source data.
5. Legal bases (EEA/UK users)
Where GDPR/UK GDPR applies, we process data under one or more of:
- Contract: to deliver Services you request;
- Legitimate interests: to secure and improve the Services (balanced against your rights);
- Consent: for certain cookies/marketing where required;
- Legal obligation: tax, accounting, and compliance.
Because quiz answers may reveal sensitive family or relationship circumstances, we process such data only as needed to provide the Services you request, with appropriate safeguards, and we ask that you share only what you are comfortable providing.
6. How we share information
We do not sell your quiz answers or personalized report data for money, and we do not share that sensitive content for cross-context behavioral advertising. We may share other limited website or device data with analytics or advertising providers where enabled, subject to consent and opt-out rights required by law. We may otherwise disclose data to:
- Service providers (hosting, analytics, email, payment processing, customer support, and AI-assisted report generation) under contractual confidentiality and use limits;
- Professional advisors (legal, accounting) under confidentiality;
- Authorities when required by law or to protect rights, safety, and security;
- Business transfers in connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, subject to continued protection of your information.
We do not share your quiz answers with attorneys or third parties as a referral dossier unless you explicitly choose a feature that exports or shares a prep packet you control.
7. Retention and deletion
We retain personal information for as long as needed to provide the Services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. Quiz and report data tied to an account is typically retained while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward (for example, to support refunds, chargebacks, or re-downloads), unless a longer period is required by law. You may request deletion as described below.
Deletion may not immediately remove information from encrypted backups, fraud-prevention records, payment and tax records, or records we must retain to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims. Where deletion is not immediately possible, we restrict use and delete or anonymize the information according to our retention process.
8. Security and confidentiality limits
We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information (including encryption in transit and access controls). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. You use the Services at your own risk regarding residual security risk.
Practical tip: If you share a device or are concerned about privacy at home, consider using a private browser session, logging out after use, and not storing passwords in shared browsers.
Prepared Chapter is not a law firm, medical provider, or HIPAA covered entity merely because you submit relationship, safety, or health-related information. Quiz answers and support messages are not protected by attorney-client, work-product, doctor-patient, or therapist-client privilege. Do not use the Services to store records that require such professional confidentiality.
9. Your rights and choices
Depending on your location, you may have rights to:
- access, correct, or delete personal information;
- portability of certain data;
- object to or restrict certain processing;
- opt out of marketing emails;
- appeal a denial of a privacy request (where required by law).
California (CCPA/CPRA) and similar state laws: You may have rights to know, delete, correct, and opt out of “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. To exercise rights, email privacy@preparedchapter.com. We will not discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights.
We will verify requests as required by law. Authorized agents may submit requests where permitted, subject to verification.
Where legally required and technically supported, we honor browser-based opt-out preference signals such as Global Privacy Control for the browser or device sending the signal. You may also contact us with the subject “Do Not Sell or Share” to exercise applicable opt-out rights.
10. Children’s privacy
The Services are not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
11. International transfers
We may process information in the United States and other countries. Where required, we use appropriate transfer mechanisms (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) for cross-border transfers.
12. Do Not Track
Some browsers send “Do Not Track” signals. We do not currently respond to DNT signals in a uniform way; manage cookies via our Cookie Policy and your browser settings.
13. Changes
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will revise the “Last updated” date and, for material changes, provide additional notice where appropriate.
